Agriscience Technology & Mechanics

The Middle School Agriscience Technology & Mechanics contest challenges students to apply foundational agricultural mechanics knowledge and skills through hands-on activities and problem solving.

Event

What Students Will Do

Students demonstrate safety practices, interpret directions, identify and use basic woodworking hand tools, select and use measuring devices, perform measuring skills, and solve problems.

Eligibility

Who Can Compete

Students in grades 6–8 may compete individually or as a team of 3–4 members.

2026 Virginia FFA State Convention

The Middle School Agriscience Technology & Mechanics contest will be held during the Virginia FFA State Convention in June 2026.

Practicum 1

Sander & Sanding

Questions and problem solving concerning sanders and sanding.

Practicum 2

Wood Project Materials & Cost

Determine the materials needed and cost for a wood project.

Skill

Wood Project Layout

Students will prepare a wood project using provided plans. Members will use layout tools to draw cutlines on the wood. Cutting and drilling are not required.

Tools Needed: Pencils, straight edge or ruler, and a tool for establishing a 90-degree angle (such as a square or triangle).
