 SUBJECT:      2009  FFA Leadership Camp

As you may know, the Leadership Camp for 2009 will be held for the second year at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, Virginia. The site has much to offer: volleyball, softball, swimming, horseshoes, basketball, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding.

With this letter, you are invited and encouraged to participate in Leadership Camp. Classes will be held in the mornings and the afternoon and evening will be used for recreation. Please share this information with the chapter president, executive committee, and other advisors.

 CAMP DATES FOR THE 2009  SEASON   July 6-10, 2009

Registration will begin at 3:00 pm on July 6. The Camp should end at approximately 10 am on Friday, July 10.

 RESERVATION DEADLINE

Reservations should be requested as soon as possible and not later than JUNE 4 on the enclosed application form. Reservations will be on a first come, first served basis. We have only a limited number that we can accommodate this summer. The chapter must submit a check for the full amount with the reservation form. We will fill the two air-conditioned cabins in the order that reservations/payments are received. Please adhere to this deadline so that sufficient materials can be ordered. Be sure all reservations are sent to: FFA-Camp, c/o Turner Trice, 4468 S. 36th Street, Arlington, Virginia 22206.

COST

The fee will be $ 200 per person for the week and needs to be paid with registration. (Actual cost to Graves Mountain is $ 288 per person; the camp is covering the difference). All except $40 can be refunded if cancellation is made by June 16.

Advisors may wish to check with their school administrators regarding trading contract time so that they may attend the Center when it is available.

POLICY

There will be no alcoholic beverages, drugs, or tobacco products allowed at Camp or while participating in any sponsored activity.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES

There will be an opportunity to fish or ride horses. There are several ponds available for fishing. Anyone 16 and older needs a license to fish in the river (but not the ponds). Bring your own equipment, or purchase equipment and license at the Syria General Store.

Horseback Riding is another option, available by signing up in the Lodge’s main office. Cost is $40 per person for a one hour ride, available in the afternoons at 3pm .A liability release form must be signed by a parent.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Each person should bring their own bed linens, towels, etc. A pillow is provided. Campers will be staying in the bunkhouses at Graves Mountain Lodge.

A medical form for each camper must be presented when registering on the first day of camp!
